1. Nature of Job:
What is the job role of psych tech and what does she/he does?
Psych tech conduct various researches in the field of psychiatry and also in the field of patient care. They can be broadly classified in two categories. First one might be those who are interested in research, and other category is those who are interested in patient care. The first ones are known as research assistants. They conduct various experiments which are psychological in nature and the other ones are those who take care of patients who are suffering from emotional and mental disorder.
They conduct various functions as part of the psych tech job description. Some of them are as follows:
- They give medication and also injections if needed to the patients.
- They help the patient to maintain proper hygiene and also maintain hygienic conditions.
- They help patients to take bath.
- They help in administrative activities.
- They provide updates about the medical condition of the patient to the family members.
- They regularly monitor the blood pressure and pulse rate of the patients.
- The research technicians perform research by observation and also use the recorded data for the experiments.
2. Qualifications and Expertise Required:
Education / Training:
Required education and training to become a psyche tech are as follows;
- Should have bachelor degree in the field of psychology or any other relevant field.
- Should have at least high school diploma or any other associate degree and should have studied English and science subjects.
- Should have completed certification course from American association of Psychiatric technicians.
Skills
Skills required for psyche tech are as follows;
- Should be able to work under pressure.
- Should be flexible to work for different timing.
- Should have good physical stamina so that they are able to physically handle patient if the situation demands.
